Here's another treat that will be aded to our goodie bags that we are making for friends and family. This is like a caramel corn, but it has a bit of spice added to it which gives it a more unique flavor.
6 cups of popped corn (about 1/4 cup unpopped)
2 cups dry chow mein noodles
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup hard margarine or butter
2 tbsp golden corn syrup
1 tbsp fancy molasses
1 tsp chinese five-spice powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds (Spread evenly in a shallow baking pan. Bake in 350 degree oven for 5 to 10 minutes, stirring or shaking often, until desired doneness.)
Combine popped corn and chow mein noodles in an extra-large bowl.
Heat and stir next 6 ingredients in a small heavy sauce pan on medium for about 5 minutes until boiling and brown sugar is dissolved. Reduce heat to medium low. Simmer, uncovered, for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
Add baking soda. Stir well. Pour over popped corn mixture.
Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Stir with wooden spoon until popped corn mixture is coated. Spread evenly in greased baking sheet with sides. Bake in 250 degrees oven for 30 minutes. Remove from oven. Loosen mixture with spatula. Cool. Break into bite-size pieces. Store in airtight container for up to 1 month. Makes about 9 1/2 cups.
