Christmas Light Sugar Cookies

One more Christmas cookie recipe, which I didn't get to post before Christmas.  It's just a basic Sugar Cookie recipe but the nice thing is that you can pretty them up any way that you want.

I have a cute little cookie cutter in the shape of a Christmas light -- I LOVE Christmas lights.  In my mind I had wanted to decorate my cookies like this:

BUT I ran out of time to decorate, so chose instead to decorate like this:

Here's the recipe:
1 cup hard margarine or butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 egg yolks
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Cream margarine and sugar in a large bowl.  Add egg yolks one at a time, beating well after each addition.  Add vanilla.  Beat until smooth.

Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl.  Add to the margarine mixture in two additions, mixing well after each addition.  Divide dough in half.  Wrap each half in plastic wrap and chill for 1 hour.

Roll out dough on lightly floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness.  Cut out shapes with cookie cutter. Place on parchment lined cookie sheets.  Bake in 350 degree oven for 6 to 8 minutes until edges are golden.

To decorate I used milk chocolate and white chocolate melting wafers.  Melt in the microwave.  Pour into a sandwich bag.  Snip off a tiny corner of the bag and then lightly squeeze a chocolate pattern over the cookies.
